Dive into the rich world of Ghana’s Adinkra symbols and bring their powerful meanings to life! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create a vibrant African-inspired table runner adorned with three iconic symbols, each steeped in cultural significance. Using bold African wax prints and raw-edge appliqué techniques, you’ll craft a one-of-a-kind textile masterpiece, with the option to expand your design into a whole quilt. All skill levels are welcome, from beginners to seasoned sewists. Your guide on this creative journey is Kena Tangi Dorsey, a quilt artist with 20+ years blending contemporary flair and traditional roots. Inspired by the Harlem Renaissance, Kena’s colorful quilts tell stories of heritage and identity. She’s a seasoned instructor at top quilt conferences and runs an online shop featuring curated African fabrics. This immersive experience includes a complete Table Runner Kit—with pattern and carefully selected wax prints—to spark your creativity. Plus, enjoy a catered lunch, perfect for relaxing and connecting with fellow makers.
